• Axor 2544 celebration series with outstanding driver comfort and top technical performance

São Bernardo do Campo, Brazil — Mercedes-Benz do Brasil has sold a million Mercedes Benz trucks since the launch of production in 1956, thus setting an all-time sales record. The company is celebrating this milestone by launching the Axor 2544 celebration series.
"This historic benchmark of one million trucks sold represents an achievement with no precedents among the truck producers of the country. This impressive sales volume reflects customers' confidence in our brand and in the quality and profitability ensured by our products," states Philipp Schiemer, Vice President Marketing and Sales at Mercedes-Benz do Brasil.
The top sellers at Mercedes-Benz in Brazil are the Mercedes-Benz Axor and the Mercedes-Benz Accelo. The Axor is the best-selling vehicle in the "linha premium" at Mercedes-Benz Brazil, which includes the medium-duty Accelo and Atego series as well as the heavy-duty Axor and Actros models. Mercedes-Benz Brazil also produces and sells the "linha tradicional," which refers to a conventional long-nose truck model.

Mercedes-Benz commercial vehicles can look back on a long tradition in Brazil. They have occupied a strong market position for more than 50 years. In the first half of 2009, Mercedes-Benz trucks had a market share of 28.5 percent in Brazil. In 1956, Mercedes-Benz became the first company in Brazil to open a truck production plant. The plant, which is part of the Daimler Trucks network, is today the largest producer of commercial vehicles in Latin America. It is the only plant in the sector that manufactures vehicles and components such as engines, drive systems, and axles at a single location.
Mercedes-Benz do Brasil's impressive sales volume for the Axor 2544 celebration series is unparalleled in the sector. The celebration series, which comprises 50 heavy-duty trucks, offers outstanding driver comfort and top-quality technological equipment. It stands out because of its reduced fuel consumption and the time-honored top quality of its Mercedes-Benz components.
The celebration series has metallic graphite paint and an unusual cabin design. In the spacious cabin, which is equipped with a cot, an air conditioner ensures comfortable temperatures. Driving comfort is also enhanced by the driver's seat with pneumatic suspension and the clearly structured and easily operated dashboard with an onboard computer whose features include a fuel consumption and maintenance indicator.
The Axor celebration series also boasts advanced technology: The "Top Brake" engine brake, disc brakes on the front and rear axles, ABS, proximity cruise control, and fog lights ensure improved performance and greater safety for the driver and the truck as well as its cargo. With two plastic fuel tanks, one holding 500 liters and one with 130 liters, the Mercedes-Benz Axor 2544 is ideally equipped for long-distance hauls. That makes this truck ideally suited for the transport of frozen products, chemical products, and fuels, as well as many other applications.
At the Mercedes-Benz do Brasil plant in São Bernardo do Campo near São Paulo, Daimler AG vehicles and components are produced, assembled, and sold. Mercedes-Benz Brazil was the market leader in the first half of 2009 for sales of trucks in the extra heavy-duty segment.
