Daimler AG and the Renault-Nissan Group are on the trail of officially announcing their strategic partnership.

The mutual agreement between the two large constructors eyes the co-development of future mini, small and compact car lineups. A new technical platform for the next generation of the Smart Fortwo, a new ForFour model and, last but not least, the 3rd generation of the Renault Twingo is one of the most important terms of the partnership. Moreover, Mercedes-Benz and Renault will put together all their best engine knowledge to develop a brand new range of low-displacement(1.2 to 1.8 liters) powerplants that will make their debut on the new A-Klasse and B-Klasse model, that are expected to arrive beginning with 2011, as well as on other Nissan and Renault models. The new MFA platform from Mercedes-Benz will also be borrowed by Nissan for developing a new entry-level Infiniti version.
